What we know about general flat cleaning from our employee with 10 years of experience
Our customers often ask us to explain how a general cleaning is carried out, what our cleaners do and what equipment they use to clean flats and houses. Today we asked our cleaner Patricia to tell us in detail about the cleaning she did in West Kilkenny. This will help you to better understand why professional cleaning ensures a perfect clean.
Today I carried out a comprehensive general cleaning at a flat in Hebron Park Street, Kilkenny. The cleaning covered all the main living areas including the living room, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and common areas. Below is a detailed description of the work carried out in each area. We called the landlady Emily and she explained how we would be able to get keys to clean her flat while she and her daughter were at a doctor's appointment.
General cleaning of the flat and its peculiarities

Begin by dusting and cleaning all surfaces in Emily's flat. All surfaces, including shelves, tables and electronics, have been dusted with a microfibre cloth. Our task was to gently treat the new furniture in the living room that Emily purchased not more than a few months ago. Special attention was paid to picture frames, light fixtures and the ceiling where cobwebs were removed. Then we move on to cleaning the furniture. This is a very important job to which many flat owners pay little attention, so over time, upholstered furniture gets very dirty and requires deep cleaning. But with regular professional cleaning you can be sure that your furniture will look like new for many years. Upholstered furniture has been vacuumed to remove dust and embedded dirt. The cushions were fluffed and any stains were cleaned using the appropriate fabric cleaners. We did a steam cleaning and gently dried the upholstery.
The next stage of our cleaning in Emily's flat is to clean the floor. Here in this flat was a general renovation and the hardwood floor was swept and mopped with a soft wood cleaner, after which it became clean and without streaks. Such floors require special attention because if not properly maintained, the wood dries and cracks quickly and loses its original appearance. To clean such a floor, a special cleaning mixture is used, which removes dirt without residue and dries quickly.
Now we move on to windows and mirrors. This is an equally important part of the cleaning. The windows have been washed inside and out using glass cleaner so that no streaks are left behind. Emily's flat on Hebron Park Street, Kilkenny has full access to the outside of the windows, but we cleaned the top of the windows using a telescopic mop. The window sills and walkways were also thoroughly cleaned. The mirrors were wiped down to a spotless shine. We usually use special professional mirror cleaners that repel dust and water, so the mirrors stay clean for a long time.
Now the final ethos is a general tidy up that fixes minor problems. The mess has been eliminated and things are neatly put in their places.
General cleaning of the kitchen at Emily's house

Start by inspecting the kitchen appliances. They are most likely to get dirty, especially if the kitchen is heavily used. Emily likes to cook, so the kitchen is more dirty than the rest of the flat. Let's start a general cleaning of the kitchen. The outside of all kitchen appliances, including the fridge, oven, microwave and dishwasher, were wiped down. The inside of the microwave oven was cleaned of food splatters, grease and sauces. A child lives in the flat with Emily so the walls in the kitchen were cleaned.
An important step is the cleaning of the furniture in the kitchen. The worktops were cleaned and wiped down with disinfectant. The backsplash was wiped down to remove grease and dirt. We temporarily moved all the kitchen utensils to get to the hard to reach areas. Cabinet fronts and handles were wiped down. Inside cabinets and drawers, crumbs and debris were removed. It is very important to check the kitchen furniture for insects, a visual inspection is enough for this. And now we move on to the plumbing part of our cleaning.
The sink was cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner to remove stains and mineral deposits. The taps have been polished to a high gloss. It should be remembered that all shiny parts get dirty with water splashes quite quickly, so this cleaning should be done as part of another service called regular cleaning of the flat or house. As you will notice we have started cleaning from top to bottom and it is important to remember that. Now we can start cleaning the kitchen floor. The tiled floor has been swept and scrubbed using floor disinfectant. The bins have been emptied and cleaned and new bin bags fitted.
General cleaning of the bathroom in a house on Hebron Park Street

Let's start by cleaning the toilet. The toilet was cleaned inside and out with toilet bowl cleaner. The exterior surface, including the base and flush handle, was disinfected. The inside of the toilet bowl was cleaned of rust and calcium deposits under the rim of the toilet bowl were also removed. The sinks were scrubbed to remove soap scum and toothpaste residue. Worktops were wiped down with disinfectant. Shower and bath walls were washed to remove soap scum, mould and hard water stains. Shower doors were cleaned and polished and curtains were straightened. Mirrors were washed to a shine with no streaks. Light fittings and taps were polished.
Now we move on to washing the floor. The floor has been swept and mopped using disinfectant. The floor was scrubbed twice to remove any detergent residue. Cabinet fronts were wiped down. Internal drawers and cupboards were organised as required. And the final step in the bathroom is to remove the trash. The bins were emptied and cleaned and new rubbish bags were installed. We recommend ventilating the bathroom more often to avoid mould. We treated the floor and wall under the bathroom with a special anti-mould product to prevent mould. We always give valuable advice to our clients on how to care for their flat.
General cleaning of the bedroom

Cleaning the bedroom is similar to cleaning the living room with a few nuances. All surfaces including nightstands, dressers and shelves were wiped down. Picture frames, light fixtures and the air conditioning surface were thoroughly cleaned. Beds were made if fresh linen was provided. Bed linen was straightened and pillows were fluffed. Carpets were thoroughly cleaned with a hoover and steam dry, including under the bed and in corners. Hardwood floors were swept and mopped twice.
The windows were washed inside and out, without streaks. The mirrors were wiped to a shine. The heavy fabric curtains were steam cleaned. At Emily's request, belongings were sorted out and the children's toys were put into boxes. The bedroom now looks perfect and will ensure a good night's sleep.
The last part of the work is the cleaning of corridors and staircases. All surfaces including handrails, handrails and light fittings were dusted. Hallway carpets were vacuumed and hardwood or tile floors were swept and mopped. Shoes were stacked on special shelves.
Emily's special wishes for this general cleaning

We are always happy to help our customers and hear their requests. All the laundry left behind was sorted, folded and put away at the request of the landlady. There are two cats living in Emily's flat, so the pet beds and toilets were cleaned. Pet hair on the furniture and floor was cleaned with a special hoover. Our advice: always inform us in advance about your individual wishes for the cleaning of your flat so that we can take the necessary professional equipment. And in Emily's flat all the client's special cleaning wishes were fulfilled. The flat was thoroughly cleaned and as a result all rooms were made spotless and hygienic. Close attention was paid to each room to create a clean and cosy environment. If you have any questions or additional requests, please do not hesitate to contact Magical Cleaning for help as Emily did. Every week we are contacted by over 100 Kilkenny residents.
