I have had professional cleaners come to my house and here is my experience
Today is a great day to talk about upholstery cleaning, isn't it? As a resident of Kilkenny, I've dealt with the dust and dirt that accumulates on your sofa and armchair more than once. But fear not, friends, for I have the know-how and plenty of free time to do the job like a pro!
Let me tell you how I start cleaning upholstered furniture
The first thing I do is gather my trusty cleaning tools: a mild upholstery cleaner, a soft-bristled brush, a microfibre cloth and a can of compressed air. I carefully inspect the sofa and chair to identify any stubborn stains or areas that need extra attention. Then I start cleaning the cushions and crevices with my trusty hoover. This is how we remove all the accumulated dirt and debris. Next, I mix a solution of upholstery cleaner and warm water in a bowl. I dip a microfibre cloth into the solution, wring it out thoroughly and gently wipe stains and dirty areas. I try to work from the outside, avoiding scraping and rubbing, which can damage the fabric. I bought my sofa relatively recently, and I want it to look as good as new as possible.

What do you do if the stains are very embedded in the fabric?
For tougher stains, I use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the area. I work in small circles, trying to get into all the nooks and crannies. After I've cleaned the stain, I blot it with a clean, damp cloth to remove excess product. If the chemical soaks into the upholstery and is not washed off, it can accumulate and vapourise and poison the air in the flat. You should therefore carefully remove any residual detergent. In the supermarket I saw a "universal" product for cleaning stains and dirt on the sofa, but I do not trust it, as my friend said that he ruined the sofa with such a product. After I've cleaned the entire sofa and chair, I use a can of compressed air to blow off the remaining dust and dirt. It gives the furniture a nice, fresh look.
It's time to vacuum clean, let's do it
Finally, I gave the sofa and armchair a good vacuuming with my trusty hoover to get rid of the dust and dirt residue. I use an attachment with a special brush that not only removes dust but also pet hair. Vacuuming removes dirt and detergent residue. I spent a lot of time, half of my day off was taken up by this cleaning. But I have some good news, the sofa and chair look like new again, ready for many more cosy evenings in front of the TV. Well, that's it, friends! If you make a little effort and choose the right products, even the most stubborn stains can be removed from the upholstery, but you will have to sacrifice your free time and most likely it is not a professional cleaning and the dirt is not removed completely.
I have had professional cleaners come in, and I want to share my experience
I wanted to give myself more time, so I decided to invite a team of professional cleaners to tackle the daunting task of cleaning my sofa, chair and carpet. By the way, I noticed that the carpet is also dirty, it has stains on it that I couldn't remove. I am happy to tell about the expert methods they will apply professionals so that your furniture will really be like new:

First, they'll assess what needs to be cleaned up
Upon arrival, the professionals will conduct a thorough inspection of your sofa, chair, and carpet to identify stubborn stains, high-traffic areas, and potential allergen hotspots. This assessment will allow them to tailor their cleaning approach to your specific needs. I will say in advance, this is a very personalised approach as stains on a chair or carpet can be from a thousand different substances, and it is important to pick the right cleaning scenario. The cleaners will draw up a plan and may do a trial cleaning on a small and inconspicuous area of the carpet or chair.
What cleaning sofas and armchairs looks like
1. Pre-treatment: after a test cleaning, the cleaner will apply a mild pre-treatment solution to the sofa and armchair to loosen dirt and stains, ensuring a more effective cleaning process. At this stage, you should not be in a hurry and allow the solution to penetrate well into the fabric of the chair upholstery. This will likely take about 15 minutes.
2. Deep cleaning: using a combination of mild cleaning agents and specialised equipment, the experts will deep clean your sofa and armchair, paying particular attention to high-traffic areas, stains and crevices. It is important to act decisively but gently to attack dirt and stains without damaging the upholstery or colour. During deep cleaning, dry steam is used, which penetrates deep into the sofa upholstery and kills pests and draws out the dirt, changing its structure. A powerful hoover then extracts the remaining insects and dirt without damaging the fabric of your favourite armchair.
3. Removal of detergent residues, rinsing: Excess detergent is removed with a clean, damp cloth and then the surface is gently wiped to remove any residual moisture. Professional cleaners use special cleaning solutions that decompose themselves into water and oxygen after cleaning, this helps to avoid harmful fumes and unpleasant odours in the room.
4. Drying the upholstery: to prevent water stains and speed up the drying process, a professional cleaner can use a specialised drying agent or a clean, dry cloth to gently wipe the area. It is particularly important to dry any moisture that has got inside the sofa upholstery, and this will help to finally remove any remaining dirt.

Now I just don't recognise my sofa and chair, they are as good as new!
Carpet cleaning with the help of professional cleaners in 4 steps
It's a fairly common misconception that using a hoover regularly to clean your carpet helps to avoid getting it dirty. Professional cleaners have shown me how dirty my carpet really is.
Pre-treatment for carpet: a gentle pre-treatment solution is applied to the carpet to loosen dirt and stains, making them easier to remove. Both inexpensive and very expensive carpets need this treatment and a specially selected solution is used. A professional cleaner will do a test on a small, inconspicuous area to make sure they are doing the right thing.
Hot water extraction: A professional cleaner uses the hot water extraction method, in which a cleaning solution is injected into the carpet under pressure and then a powerful hoover with a special nozzle pulls the dirt and cleaning solution out of the carpet, leaving the carpet clean and fresh. The result is immediately in front of your eyes. And importantly, this method is very gentle on your carpet. But if you have recently had a professional cleaner come and clean your carpet in this way, the cleaners will use dry steam cleaning.
Application of the rinse aid: Remove excess cleaning solution with a clean, damp cloth, and then gently wipe the carpet to remove any residual moisture. It is important to inspect the carpet carefully before proceeding to the next step.
Carpet drying: to prevent water stains and speed up the drying process carpet drying is used, the cleaning team can then use a specialised drying agent such as a dehumidifier or a clean, dry cloth to gently wipe the carpet. Alternatively, the cleaners may use a specialised rake to gently brush the carpet to give it a familiar texture.

What important conclusion did I draw?
I noticed that the professional cleaners did a final inspection to make sure all areas were thoroughly cleaned and any remaining dirt or stains removed. They suggested that I use a mild, non-toxic deodoriser to make the house smell fresh and clean if I wished.
By the time the professionals have finished their work, your sofa, chair and carpet will be transformed, and your home will look fresh and refreshed. As a result, I received important recommendations from professional cleaners not to use "universal" products from the supermarket that promise to remove any stain in 5 minutes. And to clean upholstered furniture only with professional equipment and solutions that professional cleaners have.
Now 2 times a week I invite professional cleaners from Magical Cleaning, and I am happy to have free time to spend on my hobby or my wife and children.
